Dr. Yunus is afraid of going to jail

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina referred to Dr. Yunus as a 'bloodsucker'. When questioned about this by foreign journalists, Yunus responded, "Sheikh Hasina claimed that I established banks to exploit poor people, providing them loans at excessive interest rates. However, the truth is that it was due to these loans that many poor individuals were able to start their own businesses and escape poverty."

In an interview given to a German media outlet, the Nobel laureate from Bangladesh expressed his fear of imprisonment. Muhammad Yunus, speaking with the German weekly newspaper De Sight, discussed this fear.

Referring to this interview, the weekly D site reported that hundreds of Nobel laureates, including former US President Barack Obama, have expressed their support for Yunus. However, in January, he was accused of violating labor laws. Yunus was sentenced to six months in prison. He is currently out on bail.

During the interview, Yunus mentioned, "Our offices have been taken over by unknown individuals. About a week ago, a group of around 35 people entered the building where our social business organizations are headquartered. They are becoming increasingly aggressive day by day."

When asked about these unknown individuals, Yunus stated that "they introduced themselves as representatives of the bank that I established."

Additionally, Sheikh Hasina accused Yunus of conspiring with the US government to withhold World Bank funds for the construction of the country's longest bridge, which Yunus denied.

The Prime Minister once told Yunus to "dip in the Padma river." When asked about this comment, Yunus explained, "Dignitaries, ambassadors, and foreign guests were present at the inauguration ceremony of the Padma Bridge. However, most of the Prime Minister's speech was focused on how I opposed the Setu and how she prevailed against me."

When asked why Sheikh Hasina is taking these actions, Yunus responded, "I don't know. Some speculate it's personal, others say it's political. However, Sheikh Hasina seems intent on turning public opinion against me."
